I have the konour to submit, for your

consideration, an application for employment, in any

capacity, either in the Colonial Office or in one of the

Colonies in order to supplement the pension I receive from

the Colony of Hongkong which in consequence of the higa

/

cast of living in this Country is insufficient to ma inte in my wife and two sons, one af when has been out of employment

since he was demobilized from the Army, and the other one,

boy of 13, whe is at Dulwich Collage.

I entered the Hongkong Civil Service on 12th. October, 1889 upon being appointed Assessor of Rates

and held the same appointment without any prenetion for a

period of thirty one years up to my retirement on 4th. Oct-

eber, 1920.

As I received no benefit under the recent

scheme of revised salaries my pension is based upon the

salary I kad drawn since lat. January, 1910, 1... for ten

years preceding my retirement.

My pension, including an increase of 15%

en Rccount of the high coat of living in England, amounts to

£524-8-3 per annum, out of which I have to pay more than £30

for income tax.

In addition to my substantive appointment

I held the position of denmandant (unpaid) of the Hongkong

Volunteer Corps for ten years from 1907 to 1917 with a

commend allowance of $200 per annum, but no addition was made,
